Create Performance Rule Slider

Site rules optimize speed, security, and usability.

To open the Create Performance Rule Slider, click Create Rule.

Select the type of rule you want to create:

Option	Description
Sequence Resource	Determines the order in which third parties load.
Dynamic Sequencing	Prioritizes and spreads out the loading of third parties.
Block Resource	Prevents resources from loading.
JavaScript Injection	Inserts JavaScript into your site in the yo.configure call. Use JavaScript injections when you need to immediately add JavaScript and cannot wait for the next release cycle. Some examples of JavaScript include: Custom APIs Image Optimization Sequencing third parties that are in the body of the page

The options change dynamically depending on which rule type you select. Use the drop-down text below to view the options that appear for each rule:

Sequence Resource Rules

Select an option:

JavaScript/Tag Manager Injected	Named resource in the page source.
HTML Source Script	Object in the page source that has a <script/> tag and a “src” attribute.
XHR	XMLHttpRequest (XHR) request or AJAX request.
Images	Image in the page source.

Resource to Sequence

Select an option:

All Third Parties	Applies the rule to every third party.
All First Parties	Applies the rule to every first party (for example, script and image resources).
Third Party	Applies the rule to the third party you select from the drop-down list.
Custom Resource	Enter a unique portion of the resource URL in the box. To sequence more than one resource, use commas to separate each URL contains parameter.

Sequence Type

Select an option:

Load Normally	Sets the resource to load normally.
After Onload the time it takes for the initial HTML document to load with all stylesheets, images, and subframes. At this point, the page is usually interactive to users. "Onload time" is equal to the high-resolution timestamp returned by the PerformanceNavigationTiming.loadEventEnd property.	Sets the resource to load after onload. Type the number of milliseconds after onload to load the resource.
After First Interaction	Sets the resource to load after the shopper clicks, scrolls, types, or moves the mouse. Type the number of milliseconds after the first interaction to load the resource. Select Always Sequence After Onload to load the resource after the first interaction after onload.
After UI Event	Sets the resource to load when a customer interacts with a specific element of your site.
After Pubsub Event	Sets the resource to load based on a prompt from the Rapid+JS Publish or Subscribe APIs.
Lazy Load	Sets the resource to load when an element of the site becomes visible to users. Enter the CSS selector in the box. For example, to delay product reviews until the reviews section of the page is displayed, enter the CSS selector for the reviews section in the box.
Chaining	Synchronously executes scripts in the order they are observed. First or third-party services are identified and executed in a sequential fashion, guaranteeing the order of the scripts as they are loaded, ensuring non-essential first party scripts do not interfere with page load times. Enter a unique name for the chain you are setting up.

Select an option:

Priority

Sets the third party to load based on the priority level you assign to it.

Select the item you want to sequence:

Third Party	Applies the rule to the third party you select from the drop-down list.
Custom Resource	Enter the resource URL in the box. To sequence more than one resource, use commas to separate each URL.

Then select a priority level for the third party or resource:

Critical	Sets the resource to load before onload the time it takes for the initial HTML document to load with all stylesheets, images, and subframes. At this point, the page is usually interactive to users. "Onload time" is equal to the high-resolution timestamp returned by the PerformanceNavigationTiming.loadEventEnd property. .
High	Includes the resource in the first group to load after onload.
Medium	Includes the resource in the second group to load after onload.
Low	Includes the resource in the last group to load after onload.

Spread

A spread rule spaces out the loading of all third parties and resources. Enter the amount of time by which you want to space out the loading of third parties. We recommending starting with 10 milliseconds and adjusting from there.

The spread rule groups together resources from the same third party, loading each immediately. For example, if you have a spread rule of 10 milliseconds, Third Party A loads 10 milliseconds after Third Party B, but Third Party A's resources load one after another without pause.

Block Resource

Option	Description
Third Party	Select the third party to block.
Custom Resource	Enter the resource URLs, separated by commas.

JavaScript Injection Rules

These options are available for all rule types.

Apply to

All Page Views

Applies the rule every time a customer loads a page on your site

Specific Page Views

You can set the following options:

Page URL	Sets what URLs the rule applies to, based on whether any part of the URL contains or excludes certain strings.
User Agent A string generated by the browser that includes the type of browser and device that the customer used to access the page.	Sets what browser or device type the rule applies to.
Geo	Sets what geographic locations the rule applies to.
Header Name Existence	Sets what page views the rule applies to based on whether the page contains or excludes a specific header.
Header Value	Sets what page views the rule applies to based on any header value. Type the header into the first box and the value into the second box.
Client IP	Sets the rule to apply only to specific IP addresses. You can use this property for testing. For example, you could set the rule to apply only for people in your company.
Client Property	This option allows you to set more granular parameters for the browser properties that the rule applies to.
Custom Data Property	Sets the rule to apply to certain data values on your site. For example, you could set the rule to apply to certain product prices.
Split Test	Applies the rule to a set percentage of traffic. Select the split test and the variations in the drop-down menus. For more information on creating split tests, see Split Tests.

Profiles

Sets which profiles to apply the rule to. You can create profiles in Settings > Context Intelligence.

Override States

Apply to Control Traffic	Applies the rule to the traffic that is normally left unoptimized.
Apply During Bypass Mode	Applies the rule even when your site status is set to bypass.

Notes (optional)

Use the Notes field to add important information for your team. For example, if you are creating a temporary rule for testing, you can indicate that in the notes.
